From farm country to the bay
Raymondville gives a northern-Valley trip a sense of place before the road turns toward Port Mansfield. Pause around the county-seat setting and consider the working agricultural landscape that surrounds it. It is a useful stop for travelers who want the small-town side of the region as well as its coast.

Edward Burleson Raymond established a town-development company in 1904, the same year the post office opened and railroad access helped draw settlers. Land sales and agricultural opportunities fueled the community’s early growth.
Raymondville developed as a trading center for surrounding farms, handling crops including cotton, sorghum, citrus, and vegetables. As the seat of Willacy County, it also became a center of public life. The historic courthouse provides a visible starting point for exploring how farming, government, and transportation shaped the town.
